Myth: Organic food is too expensive.
Fact: In general, organic food costs more than conventional food because of the laborious and time-intensive systems used by the typically smaller organic farms. You may find that the benefits of organic agriculture off-set this additional cost. At the same time, there are ways to purchase organic while sticking to your budget. Consider the following when questioning the price of organic:
- Organic farmers don’t receive federal subsidies like conventional farmers do. Therefore, the price of organic food reflects the true cost of growing.
- The price of conventional food does not reflect the cost of environmental cleanups that we pay for through our tax dollars.
- Organic farming is more labor and management intensive.

Organic refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed. It includes a system of production, processing, distribution and sales that assures consumers that the products maintain the organic integrity that begins on the farm.
Setting the stage for U.S. National organic standards, the U.S. Congress adopted the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) in 1990 as part of the 1990 Farm Bill. This action was followed by over a decade of public input and discussion, which resulted in a National Organic Program final rule published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in December 2000 and implemented in October 2002.

With the average wedding costing well over 15 thousand today, one would think so. And yet, the "green" or ecologically-friendly wedding is gaining momentum across the nation.
From greenrightnow.com:
Every little girl dreams about the perfect wedding growing up. Missing from that dream is the large amount of waste caused by that wedding. When it came time for 29-year-old Tara Brown-Selders to walk down the aisle, she could not imagine having an event that produced so much waste. “When I learned how much waste is produced by a single event, I knew I could not have the traditional wedding,” she said.
Her then-boyfriend, 31-year-old Michael Selders, proposed with her great grandmother’s diamond that had also been used by her mother. By reusing the diamond, the couple had a green start to their wedding. GreenKaret also has earth friendly options for engagement rings and wedding rings using recycled metals and fair trade gems.

The price of gasoline has taken consumers on a wild ride in the last year. While smart driving techniques and maintenance can help you save as much as 20 percent on fuel costs, the biggest savings comes — or doesn't — when you purchase a new car.
Chew on this: Even the cars on this list will add between $94 and $147 in fuel costs to your monthly car payment.
The following fuel economy and cost estimates, using data from the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy, are based on driving 15,000 miles a year — 45 percent on the highway and 55 percent in the city — and paying between $3.75 for gasoline and $3.88 for diesel.
The cars, wagons and SUVs listed here are the only 2009 models to achieve better than 30 mpg combined fuel economy.
